NEWS NEWS NEWS

1. The Boomerang Kid is finished. Not in the sense that he himself is over with, but the recording, mixing and mastering. All went well, all went smooth. Things sound nice. We are happy.
2. Billy Mack Collector came and recorded the "Billy Mack Collector Punk Rock Album" titled as "Bulb" (I believe). Tracking is over. It was a good, quick process. Everything went well. But, perhaps the last Kat Cellar recording to be done as we know it. Things are to change...
3...BIG F-WORDING NEWS FOLKS! The Kat Cellar will soon be moving to a new home! The fine gentlemen and not so men at The Sixth Ave. Gallery have agreed that it might be a fine idea of having a studio in their facility. It was a quick, swift decision, finalised with a crowbar blow to a wall. After a brief meeting at a security meeting, we (Jason Hepola and I) decided to talk at a later date. Thus came a meeting during my lunch break from my "day job". After work, not much was to be said, and then came the crowbar. Now, they have a wonderful team starring Brandon Hepola as rad dude in chief of structural design according to my specifications. All is going well, and we hope to be in by the 15th. More news to come.

The Boomerang Kid Boomerangs around

Alright, I am in the middle of the second mix of The Boomerang Kid's new record. Because Mr. Kid is a lovely lad, he took the first mix, made some good notes (photo's later) and described the direction and feeling of the mix he was wanting. Two songs in, and it's feeling good. I love doing the second mix because I've already found some semblance of foundation, and now with the artist's input, can tailor the recording to their needs and desires. Neat, huh? Well, the fostex is running. Gotta go. Have a dandy day.

Today is that Day

Well, most of the tracking (piano is missing) is done for the Boomerang Kid. Some sounds to follow at one day or soon or another.
Soon to move on to cleaning up old projects, and finishing not so old ones.

Every Day Hiss Like Sunday

News:
-There is no Kat Cellar website anymore. I thought about looking into why Geocities shut down, but never mind. Nothing in this world is free, and neither is it in the internet. Well, what a surprise. Keep your eyes pealed apart for a real website. One without any slashes or dots (save the dot com). I did some research on the availability for "Kat Celler" and saw that there were quite a few versions available, including "Katcellar.tv".
-Over the summer, we have gone through a heavy renovation, thanks to Mr. Balasti. He had the motivation. I give him credit for that. Much was done. Pictures will be included at the bottom of this post.
-Live recordings of Will Brown and DAD (Formerly Air Ick, currently Hub City Funn) were done this summer/fall. There are a few up on the Hub City Funn myspace.
-Coming soon will be The Boomerang Kid who is a loyal compatriot of the Mystic Knights of The Kat Cellar. Sessions begin the 28th of January.
-New pricing will be established in due time. Beware of increase.
Well, until next time, dear children young and old. All other news is fit to print elsewhere.

Way to go...

Alright. Update. I'll keep it brief.Geocities does not exist anymore. I was informed today. Therefor, the is nothing left of the Kat Cellar website. Which means, I might have to just step up and make a real website. It's about time, huh?
The Kat Cellar has been renovated. It looks lovely. It feels comfy. It sounds like a dream. Much revamping and rediscovering is still to come. Much with photos and sounds and things. Until then, I hope this tides you over. Oh look! A photograph.

10 or Deca

News is as follows.
-Capture the Plague has performed their last show and released their full-length, which is entitled "Broken when we got here. The end of this band has led to...
-Trevor LeBeau (aka: LeBoo the French Ghost) has begun recording with The Kat Cellar as of five hours ago. More to come on him as it progresses.
-A Month Of Sundays has achieved their goal. The tracking process has been finished. There was an issue with one of the control monitors for a few weeks, which really set back the process of tracking. But, all that is left to do is the final mixing and mastering. Album artwork is being thought over. Almost done!
-Jeremyself is officially going overboard. He is writing his third collection of songs in the past six months. A electronic album was written and recording at the end of fall. A spoken word album done in the middle of winter, and now a album yet to be finished in writing. Yes. Hopefully, all will be released at the same time. Same day.
-Still thinking about a store...
-Thinking about different space...
-Thinking about building microphones, preamps, etc...
The Big Project Of 2009!
It has come time that the goings on of the Kat Cellar are meticulously documented. I will be compiling notes, writing stories of sessions, archiving old recordings. Kind of like my own private Alan Lomax project. But, that's the goings on. I hope I can multitask. Let's find out, shall we? I have already found all the physical copies of old records and started writing the story of the Kat Cellar. I think it's a good start.

Repitition Number Nine

Brief News: Melissa Kienow came and recorded a vocal track on to a song that is a collaboration with another person. I do not know the musician's name. All went well. It was a quick task that was very much a learning experience for both of us. I tested out the 3 to 1 Ratio technique with this project, and it went well. We used a SM58 as a close mic and a Large Diaphragm Condenser as a distant mic. It captured her voice well and there was enough room in the recording to give it life. No frequency cancellation to speak of. Frequency cancellation has been an issue in The Kat Cellar at times. Much more to learn, but much has been improved. Also... Today, A Month Of Sundays started recording their full length album. Drum tracks were recorded along with a scratch guitar track. It was a good experience for all parties. In recording full lengths, there are many variables and issues that can arise, but today was mostly smooth sailing. The overhead technique used was the Dutch Broadcast style stereo method. This achieved a full sound and sounds very "real" when panned. There is still quite a bit to do on this recording, but the hardest part is over. More to come when necessary.

Eight Druids

General Update:
-A Month Of Sundays has released the demonstrative, seven song album entitled "Pain Don't Hurt." You can get a copy at a show, or get in contact with The Kat Cellar via email (katcellar@yahoo.com) for other options.
-Jeremyself has finished tracking for "Inordinate Affections", but encountered technical difficulties. More news on that when things get worked out.
-Leah Arnold has started the foundation work of the tracking process for her debut full-length album. Title and other information yet to be discussed.
-Ronald Raygun will begin reuniting to perform music in private, and possibly in public as well, and therefor, working towards recording. They have not played together since August, so this will be a slow process. More to come.
Other Things:
In an effort to keep up with the modern times, Kat Cellar will be developing a "mail order" system. When i say "modern" i mean, "out of date." No, you will not be seeing the Capture the Plague full-length on the iTunes store. Nor will you find Ronald Raygun on myspace. But, when the time comes, you will be able to send $X to X address and recieve X album through the postal service. There's still a few fine details that have to be worked out between certain bands and people. The hope is to have the entire catalogue available. There are a few things that won't be available, mostly because they have been lost or the bands are untraceable. But, a vast majority will become available to your. Another hope is to have albums on CD and cassette tape as well, for those who don't have a cd player in their car, or have an appreciation for an over-saturated magnetic tape.
Things To Be On the Look-Out For:
-Capture The Plague full length
-Capture The Plague performing at the "Rock the Block" in April.
-Advertisements.
-Mail Order Store
-A Month Of Sundays show in Groton (tentative)
-Spring. When is it? Next month? sure.
that's all
